PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
