Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then located many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials report early analysis show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

An important representative said the vandalism left him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
